At Coaching Academics we support you to make the breakthroughs you need in your academic life. We provide the space to talk with a fully qualified Life Coach who has been through and come through the doctoral process

Coaching can help you discover what you need to do to address the lack of motivation you feel around your thesis. By having the space to talk with a Life Coach, you can discover what is getting in the way and move forward with your PhD.

What is coaching?

Coaching is really about having an intentional conversation that helps an individual to understand how to get closer to their goal. For most of you this will be about getting your PhD done.

Coaching is non-directive, meaning that the coach does not set the agenda. It’s all about you. Your life. Your goals. Of course, it doesn’t have to be about your PhD. We can help you with any goal you have in life, whether it’s finding a better job, making new relationships, or even figuring out your spirituality! What do you want to make happen?

Why for PhD Students?

The journey of getting your PhD can be long and hard won. Completing your doctoral work can be as much a test of stamina and perseverance as it can be of academic capability (though both help!). Many students feel lonely and struggle with the pressures of getting it done on time. After all, you’re at the cutting edge of your field; who else really knows about it as much as you? We get this. 

Of course, it’s not just PhD students who struggle. Academic staff like lecturers and researchers, are often under huge pressure to deliver on a range of outcomes. Many activities like peer review and pastoral work have to be done but you likely do not get the recognition you deserve for these tasks. It can be highly challenging to maintain healthy divisions between work and home and this can easily lead to your work-life balance becoming out of kilter. 

Coaching gives you the breathing space to look at your priorities and think strategically about how you will achieve them. Coaching uncovers mental blockers and unhelpful cognitive biases that can get in the way of what you want. 

But I’m a PhD Student. Can I afford this?

I’ve been there on a small PhD stipend. I get it. Coaching with me costs £285 for five sessions, including a summary of notes from your session. However, depending on my capacity, I am happy to negotiate lower rates for those with less income. Please get in touch to find out more.
